Saturday September 20th  2006 Marked the First Annual Flagler Palm Coast Kiwanis Safety Fair
Below we Present a Series of Pictures Featuring Most of the Public Safety Displays at this Event
Kiwanian Frank Consentino adjusts a bike helmet for one of the dozens of children to whom the club provided free bike helmets. This was one of the most popular spots at our event. We had help in the helmet fitting effort from the current Miss Flagler County, Sarah Kelly who is recipient of one of the Kiwanis Senior of the month awards.
Smokey the Bear was on hand to teach kids about wild fire safety. Smokey even found a perpetual kid in Sam Newton to ham it up. Along with their kids finger printing/ ID program, the Flagler Co. Sheriffs Department had their mobile command center on display. This is the unit that would be deployed to coordinate a search for a lost child.
Some Kiwanians and Friends staffed the Family Life Center Booth that addressed domestic abuse and related family safety issues. This is the van the Volusia/Flagler Safe Kids Coalition uses to take its care safety seat program out to events such as our Safety Fair.
Division 7 Lt. Governor and past club President Allen Whetsell relaxes with one of the young 'uns whose day was made with the red balloon and a safer car seat inspected by the trained specialist from the Volusia/Flagler Safe Kids Coalition.       Face Painting was a highly popular fun attraction which was provided at the Safety Fair by the Key Club at Flagler Palm Coast High School.

The Flagler County Humane Society was one of a host of local organizations contributing to the First Annual Safety Fair. Their booth helped teach children how to deal with dogs who may not be friendly.

Kiwanian Al Jones holds one of the many youngsters who attended the First Annual Kiwanis Safety Fair. Likely this little lass had her car seat checked to insure it was correctly installed.
January 26th was community service partners day when our club presented contributions to a number of the organizations in Flagler County whose programs we support. We are proud to help these groups as we all make our community healthier, stronger, and a better place to live. RSVP- Judy Stetson spoke of the many person hours contributed through RSVP to our community. It was great to know that our contribution to RSVP was used for their "Giving Store" Christmas project whereby over 500 needy kids were able to shop for gifts for their families this past season.RSVP.JPG (263841 bytes)

Sharon Treen, new to the Flagler County Extension Service , spoke of the youth development programs that 4 H and other of their extension programs were able to provide through funds provided by our club. This 8 ½ week summer program reached 68 low income youth of whom 49 attended each session of that program. A great investment in our future !County Extension 4 H.JPG (265475 bytes) Richard Lautte of Friends of Washington Oaks thanked our club for supporting their new Camellia garden as well as noting they have a fishing workshop for youngsters 10-15 year of age.Friends of Washington Oaks.JPG (263007 bytes)

PAL uses Kiwanis funds to help offset some of the Pop Warner League football program as well as their new football program in the two area middle schools.PAL.JPG (269811 bytes) Terry Jones and Ron Pokigo from Friends of the Library thanked our club for our volunteer hours and funds that help provide a wealth of programs to both children and persons of all ages in the county. Terry was particularly pleased to note their new on line research tools available for students of all ages to help them with their homework.Friends of the Library.JPG (268995 bytes)
Nicola McKean of the American Cancer Society noted "Camp Rock" for kids who are cancer patients. At this camp they are amongst peers and enjoy all of the funs stuff associated with summer camp without being the odd kids out. There are also "Rock" weekends for families and "Rock" scholarships which our donations help underwrite.American Cancer Society.JPG (266737 bytes)
